Ensuring uninterrupted power services for public safety and wellbeing

Schneider Electric’s solution shifts power costs from capital to operational expenses, enabling public services to focus on community needs while ensuring reliable power management and infrastructure resilience.

Uninterrupted flow of power is essential for delivering critical services across the public sector, such as healthcare, emergency responses, and public safety. Any disruption in the power supply to these vital services can have far-reaching and devastating impacts.

Ensuring uninterrupted power services for public safety and wellbeing

These impacts can be avoided by implementing modern power management solutions with proactive monitoring and dedicated support services.

With advanced power management solutions and proactive maintenance, the risk of power-related incidents can be reduced significantly, ensuring the continuity of crucial services even during extreme and unforeseen circumstances. This safeguards community wellbeing and fosters an environment of operational resilience and certainty across public services.

Adopting these solutions can be seen as a significant challenge for public sector organisations, given the cost of acquiring and effectively maintaining critical power infrastructure. Heavy upfront capital investments can strain budgets, impeding the allocation of funds and personnel resources to other vital initiatives.

A new innovative approach to critical power solutions from Schneider Electric is gaining momentum within the public sector, transitioning the financial burden from capital expenses to predictable operational expenses.

A recent adoptee is the Greater Shepparton City Council (GSCC), which will replace its traditional CAPEX energy model and its challenges, including unpredictable costs and high OPEX charges, with a recurring service solution for critical power assets. GSCC is leveraging Schneider Electric’s expertise to oversee and manage the assets, enabling GSCC to focus on the community.

By implementing a fully managed, digitally enabled, and tailored solution, GSCC will move to a predictable, cost-efficient solution overseen by a dedicated Schneider Electric customer success manager. The role of the customer success manager is to advise, monitor, and solve future issues before they arise; saving costs and preventing power supply interruptions that may impact day-to-day operations.

Uninterruptible power supply is essential to GSCC’s operations to ensure the Council’s services can operate continuously, despite outages, power surges, or other possible interruptions.

“Thanks to this partnership with Schneider Electric, we can prioritise activities and resources to help Council thrive – which will ultimately help us focus on moving the needle for our wider community,” said Greater Shepparton City Council’s Director Corporate Services, Chris Teitzel.

This model alleviates immediate financial strains and enables organisations to allocate resources more effectively. It addresses community needs and invests in essential public services while ensuring sustainable resource management.

Partnering with a global leader in power management

The power infrastructure management landscape tends to be complex, and specialised expertise is required to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency. Some areas in the public sector often struggle with challenges in accessing and retaining this expertise internally, especially in the face of rapidly evolving technological landscapes.

The right technical knowledge is key to an efficient, cost-effective approach. Schneider Electric is recognised as a global leader in energy management and automation, and it has created a tailored service to keep critical power systems flowing.

Schneider Electric’s new model, EcoStruxureTM Outcomes: Secure Power as a Service, enables public sector entities to effectively address complex power management challenges, avert potential issues from inadequate expertise, and ensure operational efficiencies and optimal infrastructure performance across the asset lifecycle.

Adapting power infrastructure to dynamic community needs

The dynamic nature of the public sector demands an infrastructure that can adapt to evolving community needs, technological advancements, and regulatory requirements. Traditional infrastructure procurement cycles often fall short in the face of these changes, leading to scalability challenges and limited flexibility.

Secure Power as a Service addresses these limitations by providing a flexible solution that can adapt and scale with public sector power requirements. This proactive approach can be tailored to community needs, adapting critical power infrastructure to meet changing demands while avoiding service disruptions and constraints on growth.

It provides a unique lifecycle experience where organisations can enjoy the outcomes of secure power without product ownership, paying monthly fees based on actual usage.

By acting proactively, public sector organisations can effectively address challenges and avert potential issues related to power infrastructure management, financial constraints, expertise gaps, scalability limitations, cybersecurity threats, and regulatory compliance.

Implementing an ‘as a service model’ can solve immediate problems but also contribute to constructing a resilient, sustainable, and secure power infrastructure, ensuring the delivery of essential services to the community.
