Yarra Valley Water chief information officer Leigh Berrell has worked his last day at the utility after almost six years in the role, as he prepares to start a new job with Australia's largest car parts supplier.
Berrell joined the Victorian water and sewerage service provider in April 2011 as its chief information officer.
He jumped immediately into a organisation-wide desktop overhaul followed swiftly by the introduction of activity-based working.
The following year Berrell and team brought IT back in-house after around 17 years relying on outsourcers - a project that earned him the title of Utilities CIO of the year in the 2013 iTnews Benchmark Awards.
Berrell's other achievements over his five-and-a-half year stint include a private cloud deployment, an online portal for customer self service, and automated processing of residential renter relocations.
He worked his last day at the utility on Friday and will take a one-week break before starting his new role as general manager of group information services with Bapcor, Australia's largest car parts supplier.
