The MCEC said the new CIO role “is an invitation to spearhead digital transformation and revolutionise the event experience.”

Core functions involve being “orchestrating the development and execution of a comprehensive IT strategy, whilst upholding stringent cyber security protocols”.

The CIO is set to be “at the forefront of digital transformation” and “is responsible for setting a clear strategic direction and key result areas for ICT teams.”

An MCEC spokesperson told iTnews the “role has been introduced as a result of the new strategy and is the first time we have recruited for the chief information officer role.”

“Under a new chief executive, who commenced at the start of the year, MCEC has reviewed our strategic direction and developed a new purpose, vision and mission,” the spokesperson said.

MCEC’s CEO Natalie O’Brien began in the role at the start of this year to oversee the overall business plan delivery and future strategic direction of the centre, as well as the operational planning for the new Geelong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

“As part of this review, MCEC also assessed how the leadership team is set up to support the chief executive and deliver on our new mission.," the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that it was decided to employ a CIO in recognition of “the importance of information and technology systems in future-proofing our business and driving productivity."
