Under one department and leader.

Victoria University has brought its digital and campus infrastructure functions together, appointing Stuart Hildyard to lead the new department.

Hildyard - who previously headed up the university’s transformation office - now holds the twin titles of chief digital officer and executive director of campus services.

“Grateful for the opportunity to lead a new team in 2024 and excited by the challenges ahead as we bring together our new digital and campus services department,” Hildyard wrote in a brief LinkedIn post.

A Victoria University spokesperson confirmed the formation of the new department, and said it came under a broader “enterprise-wide internal initiative” to “reset and refine the organisation to meet the university’s future needs”.

“Part of the initiative was designed to modernise our digital and campus operating models to ensure we focus on customer centricity with our services,” the spokesperson told iTnews.

“We therefore decided to bring our digital and physical infrastructure functions together and create a team that aligns around enabling modern technology infrastructure, a better user experience for our students and staff whilst ensuring we take the opportunity to reshape our built environment to support this objective.”

Hildyard reports to Lisa Line, the deputy vice-chancellor of enterprise and digital, who remains the most senior technology executive at the university.

His previous role of leading the transformation project officer has been assumed by Lara Carton, who joined the university from Victoria’s department of jobs, skills, industry and regions in October last year.

“Lara is leading on a number of future-focused initiatives building on our institutional strengths, firmly placing students and their success at the core of everything we do, building on the new transformative initiative established in 2023,” the university’s spokesperson added.
