Defence to build a 'top secret' analytics capability

The department recently sought software engineers to deliver what it is calling the "resilient decision highway capability".

In a statement to iTnews, a Defence spokesperson said the project “relates to improving advanced analytics and automation” and “provides a framework for transitioning advanced analytics research into capability”.

“The program framework enables the demonstration of technology with potential utility for Defence capability managers,” the spokesperson said.

According to documents, the project will be largely carried out at Defence Science and Technology Group’s Edinburgh base in Adelaide “due to the integrated nature of the teams and the classification of the work being up to and including top secret.”

Engineers for the project need a “comprehensive understanding of the Defence Operational Environment” and “modern software development”, in addition to the relevant security clearances.

The project comes as Defence prepares to unveil a three-year digital strategy that will provide a roadmap for its technology needs and transformation spanning sovereign capability and cloud infrastructure.

Work, meanwhile, is continuing on a multi-vendor secret cloud project, which is intended to transform Defence’s IT environment and improve information sharing with other agencies.
